This month I thought I would share with you three very different books which have caught my attention ….
Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall

I was recommended this book by a girlfriend and took it away with me on holiday. I literally devoured it in one day. I just couldn’t put it down! It follows a grieving mother who, while trying to navigate the loss of her young son, falls into a passionate forbidden affair with her first love. The story toggles between the past and present. It is a real page turner. I gave my copy to my daughter-in-law at the weekend, and she will probably have finished it by now!
Recipes from the Rum Islands by Shivi Ramoutar

My husband is a very good cook and would have food programmes on in our house all day if he could. Shivi first came onto my radar when James Martin’s Saturday Morning was on in the kitchen one morning. Shivi was born in Trinidad and now lives in London. She left a career in law to pursue her love of food and we are all glad she did. She is now often referred to as the “Caribbean Food Supremo”. I can’t wait to try her Coconut Chicken Rundown at the weekend.
Healthy High Protein by Dr Rupy Aujla

I am mindful, now that I am in my 60s, that healthy protein in my diet is so important. After 60, most adults will lose anywhere between 35 and 8% of their muscle mass each decade. We know that strength exercises are linked to healthy longevity but it is also important to provide your body with the building blocks (protein) to maintain muscle mass and in this book Dr Rupy shares his years of experience as a doctor and a nutritionist and shares over 90 delicious recipes to help boost our protein intake.
