Big Ballsy Run: Facilities Manager at Wadswick Green Runs Over 100k in November to Raise Awareness of Testicular Cancer

Robert Pittman, Facilities Manager at Wadswick Green, one of Rangeford Villages’ exclusive retirement villages for the over 60s in Corsham, Wiltshire, has completed the Big Ballsy Run during November to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

The Big Ballsy Run is a joint project by Nice Work and Robin’s Cancer Trust to fight against testicular cancer during men’s health month. The disease affects 2,400 men each year in the UK but is 96% curable if caught early. During November alone, 180 men will have been diagnosed. Robert has successfully completed the challenge, running 171km during November. Participants from the UK and around the world had the choice of completing a 10k, 50k or 100k walk or run.

The event has raised over £12,000 for Robin’s Cancer Trust so far to highlight the disease and allow them to send their comprehensive support packs to those diagnosed, exceeding their £5,000 target. The JustGiving page will remain live until the end of December, please visit https://shorturl.at/uWven to donate.

Robert Pittman, Facilities Manager at Wadswick Green, comments: “It has been a privilege to get involved with the Big Ballsy Run. Sadly, we all know someone affected by cancer so having the opportunity to raise awareness and money for such an important cause was a no brainer. It’s been great to take on this challenge locally to Wadswick Green, I’ve really been able to enjoy the some of the village’s beautiful surroundings.

“I decided to take on the challenge after coming across the event online. November has become men’s health month, so it seemed like the perfect time to get involved and testicular cancer in particular is highly curable if caught early enough. A wonderful amount of money has been raised for Robin’s Cancer Trust so far, I would highly recommend for anyone who can to get involved with the next one!”

Speaking about Robert’s achievement, Keith Turnbull, Village Manager at Wadswick Green added: “We’re all very proud of Robert. At Wadswick Green, we have a brilliantly supportive community, so everyone here has been cheering him on throughout the month. We had no doubt he would complete the challenge with ease, but we are delighted that he’s now finished. Robert has certainly inspired us all with his impressive efforts.”
