Dr Dawn Recommends: Mother’s Day

Calla shoes

Calla was founded by long-term bunion sufferer Jenni who says she was tired of having to decide between comfort and style. When Jenni was made redundant in 2013, she decided to turn adversity into advantage and so Calla began and 3 years later 300 pairs of shoes from her first collection arrived at Jenni’s house and she launched Calla shoes to the world.

Jenni now works with an all-female team of experienced shoe designers and foot experts to create a range of the most comfortable shoes for bunions you will ever wear.

I particularly like the fact that the shoes are made in the Porto region of northern Portugal in small factories that pay their employees a fair wage and provide excellent working conditions.

I love my heels, but my bunion doesn’t, so I was thrilled to discover this brand a few months ago. I especially like the Sophia (pictured below), which I can wear all day without my feet shouting at me!

Delilah Make-up

A girlfriend recently introduced me to this brand, and I am a complete convert. I am in good company – Delilah is stocked in Fortnum and Mason! Interestingly, all Delilah products are powered by plants using coconut oil and acanthium flower extract, both rich in antioxidants and naturally moisturising, jojoba seed oil and olive waxes which provide a plant-based alternative to beeswax. Delilah is certified by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) as cruelty free and vegan. They are beautiful products. One of my favourites is the nude lip wardrobe.

Edmunds Cocktails

I think these make a lovely alternative to a bottle of wine or a bunch of flowers as a dinner party gift or a celebratory treat for yourself! The business is family run and always striving to minimise their carbon footprint. The bottles are delivered to your door containing all you need to produce a world class cocktail in your own kitchen. Literally all you need is a glass, ice and maybe a splash of soda water and they are very generously offering a 20% discount with code DDH-20.

Popsa

It’s lovely to have photos on a phone, but there is nothing quite like a good old fashioned photo album. After a holiday with friends a while back, I had some books made up and everyone was thrilled. We take more photographs today than ever before, but the images that bring back such fond memories can easily be lost amongst pictures of receipts, menus and screenshots of where we parked our car.

Popsa have designed an app that can analyse photo libraries without the need to upload photos to the cloud. This means they can help organise your memories, make relevant suggestions, write compelling narratives and create stunning layouts from your photos while still protecting your privacy.

If your kids are looking for a special treat for Mother’s Day, Popsa are offering a 40% discount until 30th April 2026 with code DAWN40OFF.
