Poetry competition winner

Congratulations to the winner of the Mickle Hill Residents Poetry Competition Robert Emmerson, with his special tribute to our NHS heroes. Robert won afternoon tea in the Café Bistro at Mickle Hill. Read his winning poem below:

As requested here is a verse

Of a poor tired NHS nurse

They tend to all our aches and ails

Our little Florence Nightingales

Another day, another dawn

Trying to stifle a yawn

Must go to work, come what may

Still tired off the previous day

At work they are at the beck and call

A helper to one and all

Admin to do and infections to fight

All through the day and into night

It’s doctors round

Hushed voice is the sound

The wards they roam

Deciding who is going home

Oh poor Mary, she has weed

She is in dire need

Meanwhile hungry mouths to be fed

A meal to get to every bed

Looking forward for shift to end

A tired body, home to send

Duty done as they would say

All to start again, the following day

When you are sick or had a fall

They are there for one and all

Look after yourself, keep your health

Hope that you never need their help
